Web 2.executive shakeup

November 17, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Over at Fox Interactive one Levinsohn has replaced another — Peter for Ross: at least that’s easier for your contacts list update. While Jason Calacanis has decided to move on from AOL just 12 months after their acquisition of his company Weblogs, proving that integrating an entrepreneur into a corporate environment is not easy.

Marshall Kirkpatrick muses on what this means for the industry. Are we at an inflection point or is this simply human capital churn >

These may be isolated moves that signify no grand themes; or they may signal a change in the always ambivalent relationship between the agile, entrepreneurial nature of the Web 2.0 world and large, established corporate players. Two of the biggest players in facilitating the connection between entrepreneurs and big companies are leaving their jobs. It’s probably too early to tell what it means if anything, but it’s interesting to think about.

Yahoo on Buying Spree

Yahoo is in the process of acquiring three companies at present: -

  • Bix, an online contest company
  • MyBlogLog, a blog analytics tool developer and
  •  Kenet Works, a mobile content company.

Techcrunch rightly classifies these as social media acquisitions. Perhaps Yahoo is finally getting its mojo back.

Shark Attacked: Surfer Throws Punch

November 17, 2006 · Leave a Comment

A Zambezi shark tried to take on more than it could handle when it went for Raz Tebbutt.

The wily South African surfer threw three right handers to its jaw and then managed to get out of the water before it came back in for round 2.

I grew up surfing with both guys mentioned in this article - good to hear they are still holding their own!
